Adithya Lakshmi KR is a London-based painter and the co-founder and art director of the online art store HOBO.

She received her BFA in Painting from the College of Fine Arts Kerala (2019) and an MFA from Visva Bharathi University Santhinekedan (2021). She recently completed an MA in Strategic Marketing from the University of Greenwich (2023).

Her work has been exhibited internationally at the Kochi-Muziris Biennale, India, in 2020. In the same year, she also held a solo show in Kochi and participated in a group show at SSVAD.

The core of Adithya's work lies in representing collected photographs of the native people and landscapes of Kottayam, Kerala, originally taken between 1970 and 1990, and in her interpretation of the past, now transformed into a painted experience.

While photographs naturally become abstract as time passes, in Adithya's work, they are transported into the present time and turned into an even more abstract form.

The work highlights a transition that reinstates the original feeling with each painting. However, this is not merely a remake or representation of the collected photographs:

Adithya inquires into the existence of these images, what preceded them, and what led to their creation.

The artist questions the actual time and space in which they were taken while creating an illusion of memory for the viewers, as the very image being painted embarks on a journey that feels more emotive than the actual photographs.

Through these paintings, the viewer is invited to experience the lives of the people portrayed in them on a new level.
